Events in June 2020

C’est is d’Best is a festival in which street performers – musicians, actors, dancers – take part in various performances at assorted locations throughout the city. The festival is now in its 24th year.

The 35th Oldtimer Rally – featuring a host of classic cars – is organised by the Oldtimer Club Zagreb, with the cars taking to the streets of the capital in early June.

The 37th Dance Week Festival (4th to 12th June 2020) will showcase a wide variety of contemporary dance performances from both Croatian and international troupes.

Celine Dion will be performing at the Arena Zagreb on 5th June 2020.

We Love Sound (little sister to the Sonus Festival) will offer up a 14 hour rave on the shores of Lake Jarun on 6th June 2020. Chris Liebing, Len Faki, Sonja Moonear are all on the bill, plus others.

Animafest, as the name might suggest, is a world festival of animated film which was first held way back in 1972. This year’s festival will be held from 8th to 13th June 2020.

The Pop Up Summer Garden runs from mid June until mid-September every Zagreb summer. It features live music, film, workshops and food and drink in the pretty Tuskanac woods.

Zagreb Pride will be taking to the streets of Croatia’s capital on 13th June 2020.

The 29th Days of Croatian Film should take place in mid-June.

Vinoljupci/Winelovers’ Street is a three-day event offering tastings of wines from across Croatia. Held on Kurelceva Street (very close to the main square), entry is free and glasses of wine are 8 Kunas each.

Lake Jarun is home to the INmusic Festival, a three day music event in a pretty setting in the southwestern part of the city, with a host of international bands and stars performing. It’s a great way of experiencing a music festival right in the heart (just about) of a European city – and is one of the top events in Zagreb each year! Events in July 2020
More knijga (“Sea of books”) turns Zrinjevac Park in the centre of Zagreb into a stylish ‘beach’ each mid-July. Pick up a book to read – hundreds of titles will be available, both in Croatian and English – and enjoy cocktails and music as well.

The Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival is a festival dedicated to “fiction film” – i.e. sci-fi, horror, thrillers, suspense films and similar. Film screenings normally take place in several cinemas in the city in June/July.

Simple Minds will be bringing their 40 Years of Hits Tour to Zagreb on 13th July 2020, performing at the Salata Centre. Simple minds live in Zagreb.

Veceri na Gricu (Evenings on Gric or Gric Evenings in English)
is a long-running festival (in its 39th year in 2020) featuring a series of concerts in the Upper Town. The concerts should take place throughout July and August.

The magical Dvorista (“courtyards”) takes place in those very (usually unaccessible) areas in the Upper Town of Zagreb in mid July, with music, gastronomic delights and much more.

The International Folklore Festival – over the course of five days – brings together folklore groups from Croatia, Europe and further afield for performances, workshops, concerts, exhibitions and a handicraft and souvenir fair. Some performances are held on Ban Jelacic square. This year’s Festival is the 54th edition, taking place from 15th to 19th July 2020.
Events in August 2020

FlagArt Zagreb – the International Festival of Art Flags – will take place from 10th to 20th August 2020. Flags designed by artists from all over the world will be displayed in several prominent squares in the city, including Ban Jelacic Square.

Okolo Zagreb (20th – 30th August 2020) will feature a number of art installations – both large and small – on the streets of Zagreb by Croatian and foreign artists.

The Green River Festival – from 20th August to 20th September 2020 – is a utilising entirely recycling materials for its offering of concerts, workshops, kids events and more on the banks of the River Sava (by Hendrix Bridge).
